Dreaming in Cyanotypes
Stuck in the net of dreams, I dream you in blue…
This ongoing series explores print-making as a metaphor of archiving memory. Playing with the fragile medium of cyanotype, I reproduce found archival photos and personal photos.
The process of making cyanotypes includes coating the paper in a solution made of Ferric ammonium citrate and Potassium ferricyanide, placing a negative on top, and letting the chemicals react to sunlight. Over time, the negatives leave an imprint on the paper, and when you rinse the exposed paper, certain details that were hidden from your eyes start to emerge. Similarly, queer history requires us to wash away grand narratives, agitate the print a bit, and seek out the beautiful details that slowly emerge.
Part of the series has been exhibited at the International Women’s Fund Symposium, Bangkok, 2024.
